The Clarke County School District says discipline is being handled internally: several students are facing that discipline after what District officials says was a series of fights that took place Wednesday at Clarke Central High School. No students were injured in altercations that are said to have stemmed from social media and what the school says were “outside influences.” Letters were sent home to all parents of Clarke Central students.
In a statement released to parents, Dr. Swade Huff, principal of Clarke Central High School, said this:
“At Clarke Central High School, our primary goal is to ensure that your child receives the best education possible in a safe and orderly school environment. Our priority is to give every student the opportunity to engage academically, socially and emotionally in a space which is conducive to teaching and learning.
It is imperative that we, as a school community, work together to ensure that we have the same expectations for all students that enter our school. We need the support of parents to keep the lines of communication open. If issues or concerns arise, while at school or in the community, please reach out to Clarke Central High School teachers and/or administrators by calling the school at (706) 357-5200. It is essential that you inform us of any issues that may need to be addressed before students engage in behaviors that can lead to suspension from school and/or additional disciplinary actions.”
