CCSD summer meal program is underway today

school lunches

The Clarke County School District says it is providing summer meals to students who are enrolled in summer school: they’ll get free breakfast and lunch at summer school sites starting today and continuing through the end of the month. The summer school locations include Barrow, Gaines, Stroud, and Oglethorpe Avenue elementary schools and Burney-Harris-Lyons and Hilsman middle schools.

From the CCSD website…

This summer, the Clarke County School Nutrition Program will provide meals to students and our community at select school campuses and satellite locations.

In addition to students who are enrolled in summer school having access to free breakfast and lunch at their school sites, starting on Monday, June 5, through Thursday, June 29 (Monday-Thursday every week), meals will be offered to the community at six “open” summer school sites. Children up to age 18 will be allowed to visit the sites and have a free lunch, while adults can also join at a cost of $4.25 per meal. The sites are as follows:

  • Barrow Elementary School, 100 Pinecrest Dr., Athens
  • Burney-Harris-Lyons Middle School, 1600 Tallassee Rd., Athens
  • Gaines Elementary School, 900 Gaines School Rd., Athens
  • Hilsman Middle School, 870 Gaines School Rd., Athens
  • Howard B. Stroud Elementary School, 715 Fourth St., Athens
  • Oglethorpe Avenue Elementary School, 1150 Oglethorpe Ave., Athens.
