Charter Overview Commission meets in Athens, public hearing on grant in Watkinsville

The citizens panel that is looking at possible changes to the Athens-Clarke County government charter meets this afternoon: the Athens-Clarke County Overview Commission session is set for 4 o'clock on the UGA Health Sciences Campus on Prince Avenue. 

There is water talk today in Athens: the Upper Oconee Basin Water Authority meets, 9:30 this morning at Authority offices on Research Drive.

Oconee County holds a public hearing on plans for a $750,000 Community Development Block Grant. Tonight's meeting is set for 6 o'clock at the Oconee County Senior Center. That is on Hog Mountain Road in Watkinsville.

Oconee County is considering applying to the Georgia Department of Community Affairs for a Community Development Block Grant of up to $750,000. These funds must be used to primarily benefit low- and moderate-income persons.

The activities for which these funds may be used are in the areas of housing, public facilities, and economic development. More specific details regarding eligible activities, plans to assist displaced persons (if any), the estimated amount of funds proposed to be used for activities to benefit low- and moderate-income persons, and the rating system will be provided at a public hearing which will be held at Oconee County Senior Center at 3500 Hog Mountain Rd., Watkinsville, GA 30677 on January 22, 2020 at 6:00 p.m.

The purpose of this hearing will be to obtain citizen input into the development of the application and to review progress on the CDBG grant.
