The Athens-Clarke County Government says the federal government’s Department of Housing and Urban Development has allocated $2 million to the Community Development Department in Athens, funding the County will use for affordable housing efforts.

From the Athens-Clarke Co government website…

The Athens-Clarke County Unified Government Housing and Community Development Department announces the availability of approximately $2,000,000 in federal funding from the U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development under the HOME Investment Partnerships Program to increase and preserve affordable housing for low-income Athens-Clarke County residents. HOME Program funds are designed to provide gap financing to non-profit and for-profit affordable housing development entities. FY25 HOME applications are accepted annually and awarded on a competitive basis. HOME funds will be available for FY25 HOME contracting (July 1, 2024) as gap financing for select eligible housing activities.

HCD will host a virtual meeting to explain how eligible nonprofit organizations and select for-profit organizations may access these federal funds to administer programs that target Athens-Clarke County housing priorities.
