Clarke Co BOE meets today, schedules budget review session for next week

There is an afternoon meeting of the Clarke County School Board, a 5 o’clock work session at the School District’s central office on Prince Avenue in Athens.

The Clarke County School Board schedules a special session for next week to get the budget proposal from Clarke County School Superintendent Robbie Hooker: the Board meets next Tuesday to review the spending plan for the new fiscal year that begins in July.

From the Clarke Co School District website…

The Clarke County Board of Education will hold a called meeting on Tuesday, April 16, to receive an initial presentation on the Clarke County School District Superintendent’s proposed budget for fiscal year 2025 (July 1, 2024, through June 30, 2025).

The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. at the district administrative offices building, 595 Prince Ave., Athens, in the Vernon Payne Meeting Hall. Board meetings are open to the public and are livestreamed and available for on-demand viewing on the CCSD YouTube channel.

There will not be a public comment period during the April 16 meeting as it will only be for the budget presentation and board members’ questions and discussion. The board is scheduled to give tentative approval to a budget for FY25 at its May 9 business meeting and will subsequently announce dates for the required public hearings on the budget – as well as any additional hearings that would be required if the board sets a millage rate that would result in property tax increases.

All information on the FY25 budget — including budget overviews, summaries, copies of public presentations, and public-hearing notices — will be posted to this page as it becomes available.
