Commercial air service at Ben Epps? Talks are underway

There is an effort to bring commercial air service back to Athens. It has been a decade since commercial jets flew in and out of Athens-Ben Epps Airport. The Airport Authority has met with representatives from five airlines to talk about a resumption of service.

From the Georgia News Network…

Five major airlines are discussing the possibilities of starting passenger service in Athens.  Athens-Ben Epps Airport officials can’t say much about the meetings, but they told commissioners “the airlines interested in servicing Athens today currently fly 70-120 seat aircraft.”

The Athens Banner-Herald reports airline representatives did express concerns over parking availability and would want more parking made available for passengers.

Airport staff urged commissioners to embrace expanding the parking anyway because the airport is handling more private aircraft with greater passenger capacity than in the past.

Commercial service at Athens-Ben Epps Airport hasn’t been scheduled since 2014.
