Crash victims die from injuries after accidents on Nowhere Road

Athens-Clarke County Police say two people injured in car crashes on Nowhere Road—wrecks that happened earlier this month—died this week. 36 year-old Fredrico Purnell of Athens was injured in a May 4 accident at Nowhere Road’s intersection with Danielsville Road. Julia Hampton was 85 years old, from Crawfordville. She was involved in a wreck that happened two days later at Nowhere Road and Freeman Drive. Theirs were the sixth and seventh vehicle fatalities this year in Athens.

On May 4, 2023, at approximately 4:22PM, ACCPD responded to a single-vehicle crash at the intersection of Danielsville Road and Nowhere Road. Initial investigation indicates that a Chevrolet Tahoe was traveling North on Danielsville Road when it struck a raised median and entered the intersection of Nowhere Road. The driver of the Tahoe, Fredrico Purnell, 36, of Athens, GA, was ejected from the vehicle. Purnell was transported to a local hospital by EMS. On May 24, 2023, ACCPD was notified that Purnell died as a result of his injuries sustained in the crash.

On May 6, 2023, at approximately 1:58PM, ACCPD responded to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Nowhere Road and Freeman Drive. Initial investigation indicates that a 2003 Lincoln Town Car was traveling North on Freeman Drive when it entered the intersection of Nowhere Road and collided with a 2019 Jeep Cherokee. The driver of the Town Car, Julia Hampton, 85, of Crawfordville, GA, was transported to a local hospital by EMS. On May 24, 2023, ACCPD was notified that Hampton died as a result of her injuries sustained in the crash.
