DA marks National Crime Victim Survivors Week

Deborah Gonzalez, District Attorney for the Western Judicial Circuit that covers Clarke and Oconee counties, is observing National Crime Victims’ Rights Week. Activities include a candlelight vigil.

From Western Circuit DA Deborah Gonzalez…

The Western Judicial Circuit DA Office is excited to announce its first-ever Survivors’ Week Celebration commemorating National Crime Victims’ Rights Week 2024 by holding candlelight vigils and co-hosting community events for the entire family. This year’s theme, “How Would You Help,” highlights community options, services, and hope for courageous survivors affected by crime.

We have partnered with the Clarke County Sheriff’s Department, the ACCPD, and several community agencies in Athens to provide youth workshops, men’s workshops, self-care sessions, keynote speakers providing lived experiences, and more. There will be a candlelight vigil at the ACC Courthouse on Tuesday, a public safety forum at the ACC library on Wednesday, another candlelight vigil at the Oconee County Courthouse on Thursday, adult and youth workshops on Friday, and a Family Resource Fair on Saturday. The events on Friday and Saturday will be held at the Twin Angels Community Center. These activities are designed to celebrate the strength and resiliency of survivors in our communities.

“We are doing our part to engage in preventative measures by providing access to community resources, support for crime survivors, and answering the call to action to create a safe environment for our community,” D.A. Gonzalez said.

We encourage participation in the week’s events. To register or for more information, please get in touch with Sofia Delgado, Community Outreach Coordinator, or Dawn Brinkley, Director of External Relations, at dacommunity@accgov.com.
