Drugs and guns seized, suspects arrested in multi-agency operation in Athens

The Athens-Clarke County Police Department says a multi-agency drug investigation yielded drug seizures and the arrests of three drug trafficking suspects. 23 year-old Luis Juarez, 22 year-old Luis Campuzano, and 22 year-old Edwin Chavez are all from Athens. Athens-Clarke County Police, working with the DEA, the FBI, and other law enforcement agencies say several firearms were confiscated in an operation that unfolded last week.

On May 16th, 2024, ACCPD participated in a multi-agency drug investigation resulting in the execution of several search warrants in Athens-Clarke County, Georgia.

During the search warrant, approximately 35 kilograms of cocaine, 5 pounds of methamphetamine, 1 kilogram of fentanyl, 1 kilogram of heroin, 19 firearms were seized. Of the firearms, two pistols were modified with switches that enable automatic fire. This is an ongoing investigation.

Three suspects were taken into custody and charged with “Trafficking Illegal Drugs” at the time of the search warrants; Luis Reyes-Juarez of Athens, GA, 23, Luis Angel Campuzano of Athens, GA, 22, and Edwin Rolando Chavez of Athens, GA, 22. The charges are merely allegations and all defendants are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
