East Athens shootings: two teens wounded, one killed

Athens-Clarke County Police have a homicide on their hands: a 19 year-old was shot and killed and 18 year-old wounded in a shootout on Gaines School Road in Athens. Police say it looks like they shot each other. They say the wounded 18 year-old is expected to survive.

Athens-Clarke County Police investigate the weekend shooting that wounded a 13 year-old boy: it happened in a home on Essex Court on Athens’ east side. Police say the wounded teenager was taken to an Athens hospital in what is said to have been serious condition. There was no word from police on any charges in the case, in which the 13 year-old was shot by his 3 year-old nephew, who somehow got his hands on a gun in the home.

On October 21, 2022, at approximately 4:55PM, the Athens-Clarke County Police Department responded to the 100 block of Gaines School Road in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located two individuals that had been shot. Preliminary investigation indicates that these two individuals shot each other. One of the individuals, a 19-year-old male, of Athens, GA, died as a result of his injuries. The other subject that was shot, an 18-year-old male of Athens, GA, was transported by EMS to a local hospital. He is expected to survive.

On October 22, 2022, at approximately 2:00PM, the Athens-Clarke County Police Department responded to a residence in the 100 block of Essex Court for a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located a 13-year-old male who had been shot. Initial investigation indicates that another juvenile in the residence gained access to a firearm and discharged the firearm, striking the 13-year-old. The 13-year-old was transported to a local hospital by EMS with serious injuries.
