Elderly woman dies in Gwinnett County house fire

GWINNETT COUNTY, GA — An elderly woman rescued in a weekend house fire in Gwinnett County has died.

Crews responded to a fire at a home at the 2200 block of Eastwood Drive in Snellville around 5:45 p.m. A 911 caller reported heavy smoke and flames coming from the house and said there was one person trapped inside.

The victim was found on the first floor and was rushed to the hospital where she later died. The identity of the victim has not been released.

Officials add one occupant was not home at the time and said neighbors notified him of the fire. One occupant was displaced and denied assistance from the American Red Cross.

The fire started in the garage, investigators say.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
