The Foundation for Excellence in Public Education in Athens names nearly three dozen recipients for this year’s student awards. One student from each school in the Clarke County School District is a recipient of the 2024 Eve Carson Award, named in honor of the Clarke Central High graduate who was murdered in 2004 while attending the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill.

The Foundation for Excellence in Public Education in Clarke County (FFE), a longstanding partner of the Clarke County School District, has announced its 2024 student awards, which were presented to students in recent weeks during schools’ end-of-year ceremonies.

Every year, the FFE awards several thousand dollars to CCSD high school juniors and seniors who are chosen by school staff for their excellent work and dedication to their education. The organization also awards one student from each school’s exiting class (grades 5, 8, and 12) the annual Eve Carson Humanitarian Spirit Award. The award honors the memory of the late 2004 Clarke Central High School graduate, and each school selects the student who best exemplies her qualities as described by the FFE: “Eve Carson exhibited a selfless generosity that one yearns to achieve in a full lifetime. Her unconditional positive regard for all people, caring, encouragement, acceptance, open-mindedness, genuine love, and practice of inclusive acts of kindness to all are examples of the qualities that this award is recognizing and promoting.”
