It’s been an Athens institution for decades, and now comes word the Waffle House in Five Points will be closing, possibly as early as next week. A source tells WGAU employees of the restaurant on Milledge Avenue were notified Monday and Tuesday. Other sources say the reason for the pending closure is the failure of Waffle House operators to reach a lease agreement with property owners.
It is not known what, if any, plans might be under consideration for the parcel that sits off Milledge near its intersection with Lumpkin Street in Athens.
