Former Athens state Rep sues for DA election

Athens attorney and former state Rep Deborah Gonzalez has filed a lawsuit over an election that will not happen in November: Democrat Gonzalez was a candidate for District Attorney in the Western Judicial circuit that covers Clarke and Oconee counties.

When Governor Brian Kemp failed to meet a deadline to appoint a replacement for former DA Ken Mauldin, who resigned earlier this year, state law required this year's election be postponed until 2022.

"This fight goes beyond our Judicial Circuit as there are now another 3 or 4 DA races at risk of being cancelled because of possible resignations: Glynn, Fulton and Gwinnett counties," says Gonzalez on Facebook. "When successful, our lawsuit will protect them all as well as future DA races."
