Former Bulldog football player kicks off campaign for Congress

There is primary opposition for Republican Congressman Andrew Clyde, the Athens gun shop owner who represents northeast Georgia’s newly redrawn 9th District in the US House. Former Georgia Bulldog football player Ben Souther, who has worked most recently as an FBI agent, says he will be on the ballot for the GOP primary in May.

Ben Souther is a former University of Georgia football player and 7th generation North Georgian. He is proudly running as a Republican candidate in Georgia’s newly drawn 9th Congressional District, which no longer includes the incumbent congressman. Ben is a proud citizen of Murrayville, Georgia.

Ben recently served as an FBI Special Agent. He had the honor of working with the bravest crime fighters in the United States. As an FBI Agent, Ben integrated with local law enforcement and went after the true criminals. As a 29-year-old, Ben was one of the youngest Agents ever selected to the FBI SWAT team in Atlanta. He aided in locating and recovering a murder victim in Boston, arrested an infamous subject of hit TV series “The First 48″, aided FBI Director Chris Wray’s Protection Detail, and was tapped to join an elite Resident Agency as the lead Special Agent for Violent Crimes Against Children & White-Collar Crimes.

Ben graduated from UGA’s Terry College of Business with a degree in Business Administration & a Graduate Certificate in Nonprofit Management & Leadership. Prior to joining the FBI, he was a mentor through the Hall County School System and licensed Real Estate Broker – starting The Souther Real Estate Brokerage. While in graduate school at the School of Public & International Affairs, Ben was a Graduate Assistant in the University of Georgia Athletic Association. In UGA’s Athletic Association, Ben worked with the world class “The Georgia Way program.” Since leaving the FBI, Ben started The North Georgia Company with a focus on innovate land and business development. Ben also served on the Emerging Professionals Board at Peach State Bank & Trust in Gainesville, Georgia.

Ben is married to his middle school sweetheart, Kristen, who is a pediatric ICU nurse. They are former foster parents in the North Georgia Community. They have three children: their oldest is Ben Souther II (4-years-old), whom the couple adopted, along with Parks (3-years-old) and Kate (9-months-old).
