Foundation looks to raise money for ACCPD

The new year will bring an opportunity for tax deductible contributions to a foundation formed to raise money for the Athens-Clarke County Police Department. It’s the product of a law the legislature approved earlier this year, a measure pushed by Athens state Rep Houston Gaines.

From Athens Classic Inc…

January 3rd is an important date. Pay close attention to this date because it can have tax implications that are important to the Clarke County Police Department as well as Clarke County tax payers and corporations.

This tax initiative is called the Qualified Law Enforcement Donation Credit. This is a way of paying your taxes to benefit the Athens-Clarke County Police Foundation, a qualified law enforcement foundation (QLEF). The $75 million tax credits for Georgia will go quickly. It’s important to follow the instructions below to ensure the ACC Police Foundation obtains the $3 million limit from personal and corporate contributions.

In brief, please see:

  • Attached flyer (ACCPD-Foundation_Flyer) that gives you an overview of how you can contribute up to $5000 WITH NO COST TO YOU!
  • Attached Police Chief, Jerry Saulters, letter of support for the Athens-Clarke County Police Foundation (ACPF) a 501(c)3 QLEF.
  • Instructions (step by step) below
  • Brief explanation of the Qualified Law Enforcement Donation Credit below
  • Have questions? Email info@athenscpf.org.

Instructions:

  • Apply on January 3rd as other Georgia QLEF’s will vie for limited funding.
  • The tax credits are capped at $5,000 per individual ($10,000 per married couple) and 75% of a corporation’s tax liability.
  • The taxpayer must electronically submit Form ITQLED-TP1 through the Georgia Tax Center to request pre-approval of the qualified law enforcement donation credit from the Department of Revenue.
  • Donation Credit Pre-approval Instructions: https://dor.georgia.gov/document/document/qled-preapproval-instructions/downloa

The Qualified Law Enforcement Donation Credit makes $75 million a year available in state income tax credits to tax payers and corporations who donate a portion of the taxes they would normally pay into the state treasury. This tax credit goes to support local law enforcement. Taxes designated will be credited as donations made to a qualified law enforcement foundation (QLEF). A qualified law enforcement foundation (“QLEF”) is designated as the sole local law enforcement foundation for a single local law enforcement unit and has been certified as such by the Commissioner following receipt of a properly completed application. From Athens-Clarke Co Police Chief Jerry Saulters...

It is with great enthusiasm and excitement that I offer this letter of support to the AthensClarke Police Foundation (ACPF). Citizens and business leaders in Athens-Clarke County have created the ACPF in order to assist the Athens-Clarke County Police Department (ACCPD) by providing funding resources beyond what is available through the annual police budget. The focus of the ACPF is to aid your police department in developing, improving, and funding community outreach programs that may not otherwise be available.

The ACPF is a 501(c)(3) organization and was established to provide the opportunity for community and business members to support programs and strategic initiatives that will improve the safety and quality of life in our neighborhoods, schools and business districts. The ACPF Executive Board works closely with ACCPD leadership to raise funds that support and expand programs such as the Youth Summer Camps, Shop with a Cop, Citizen Police Academy, Police Explorers, Coffee with a Cop, Bonding over Books, National Night Out, and many more programs. All of these programs are designed to bring together police and citizens in order to build and maintain a safe community, all with a foundation to strengthen mutual trust and shared responsibility.

Each day, the men and women of the ACCPD serve and protect our community while providing exemplary service to our citizens. The ACPF is an ideal example of what can be achieved when our government, businesses, and community work together to achieve a common goal of goodness for our entire community. I encourage you to read the attached flyer and support the Athens-Clarke Police Foundation using the dollarfor-dollar tax credit. Each police foundation will be competing for the $75,000,000. Our local foundation can accept up to $3,000,000 from personal and corporate contributions. Time is of the essence, as we are competing with other police foundations in Georgia. Please apply on January 3, 2023!

Thank you for your support.
