ATLANTA — Georgia officials say one-time tax refunds approved by the General Assembly are now being issued, and residents are being urged to keep an eye on their bank accounts this week.

Governor Brian Kemp and the Georgia Department of Revenue say the refunds were authorized by HB 1000 during the 2026 legislative session. Officials say this is the fourth special refund issued under Kemp’s leadership, following similar refunds in 2022, 2023, and 2025.

The state says more than $1 billion will be returned to taxpayers.

Married couples filing jointly could receive up to $500, while single filers and married individuals filing separately could get up to $250. Head of household filers could receive up to $375. Officials say the exact amount depends on a taxpayer’s liability.

At a signing ceremony in March, Kemp said the refunds are intended to provide relief.

“This measure doesn’t pick winners and losers, it helps all Georgia taxpayers,” Kemp said.

Officials say most eligible taxpayers who filed their 2024 and 2025 returns before the deadline can expect to receive their refund within the coming weeks.
