ATLANTA — Georgia hospitals are helping provide a big boost to the state’s economy, according to officials.
Anna Adams, the Georgia Hospital Association’s chief government relations officer, says it’s a $145 billion economic impact this year.
That is an increase of $8 billion over the previous year, officials said.
“Most of our hospitals are the largest employer within their community,” Adams said. “The employees they are providing jobs to are then stimulating that local level of economic growth.”
Georgia hospitals are considered among the state’s most important economic engines, helping to create and support more than 590,000 full and part-time jobs.
“The stimulation to the economy just from the workers that we employ going out and purchasing, maybe buying homes, buying groceries,” Adams said. “All of those things that go back into Georgia’s economy and what makes us such a successful state.”
