A motorcyclist died in a crash after running from a Hall County deputy, and Georgia State Patrol trooper officials said.

GSP said on Dec. 10, the deputy attempted to stop a motorcycle on I-985 near mile marker 12 for traffic-related offenses.

The motorcyclist was identified as 28-year-old Jeremy Wayne Burney of Flowery Branch.

GSP did not say what the traffic offenses were.

A GSP trooper reported Burney passed him at Exit 16 at a high rate of speed following the encounter with the deputies.

The trooper attempted to follow Burney onto the interstate but lost him due to how fast he was going.

GSP said after that, Hall County dispatch received reports of a crash that involved a motorcycle at the Exit 17 off-ramp.

According to the traffic crash investigation, Burney could not negotiate the curve at the top of the ramp and crashed on his own.

GSP said Burney suffered severe injuries and was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center, where he died shortly after.

The investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
