Some metro Atlanta bowling alleys open to few customers

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Part of metro Atlanta is getting back to business now that Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp has given the green light -- and that includes bowling alleys.

Channel 2′s Berndt Petersen looked into how much traffic bowling alleys are actually getting.

Petersen talked to customers at Bowlero in Norcross. The place wasn't crowded when Channel 2 Action News visited, but there were a few patrons.

Elizabeth Lucero said she couldn't wait to get out of the house.

“We’ve been indoors for over a month,” Lucero said. “It was nice to come out with my husband and have a date night, so to speak.”

Managers at Bowlero and their higher-ups didn’t want to comment to Channel 2, but the company’s website goes into detail about the extra steps that are being taken to sanitize bowling balls and shoes, separate guests and more.

"The employees are wearing masks and gloves," Lucero said. "You see them sterilizing after every person that left."

Lucero said a few groups of bowlers came and went while she and her husband were inside.

When Channel 2 Action News was there, the parking lot was mostly empty. It was the same at the company's location in Lilburn.

While some people have criticized the governor’s decision, Lucero was glad Bowlero was open, and glad she came.

“It was time,” Lucero said. “I think a lot of people will be excited to come out and have a family day.”
