Harden to seek seat on Oconee Co Commission

Amrey Harden, a three-time mayor of Watkinsville, says he will be a candidate for Oconee County Commission: Harden will run for the seat vacated with last month's death of Bubber Wilkes, the Post 3 Commissioner who died of heart illness at the age of 71.

From Amrey Harden…

Today, I am officially announcing my intention to seek election to Post #3 of the Oconee County Board of Commissioners to fill the unexpired term of the late William E. “Bubber” Wilkes.

Bubber loved Oconee County and did so much for its citizens. Like Bubber, I have always had a passion to serve the community, and I love Oconee County. That love and passion is the reason that it is time for me to offer myself for public office. This is not my first time seeking public office having served three terms as the Mayor of Watkinsville.

My career experience and past community involvement have provided me with the knowledge and skills that are needed to hold such an important office.

Even though I feel that I am knowledgeable of the issues facing Oconee County, I do know that it is vital to listen and learn from the citizens of our wonderful County. Most of us enjoy a quality of life here that other counties aspire to. To maintain that quality of life and to help our future, citizens need to be heard from and given a chance to share what is important to them.

In the coming weeks, I look forward to hearing what our fellow Oconee Countians have on their minds, and to share with everyone what I can bring to the table.

I encourage voters to reach out to me and begin to share with me their visions for our future. My email address is amrey@bellsouth.net, and my phone number is 706-540-5793.

Thank you very much.

Amrey
