The Athens-Clarke County Leisure Services holds this week the first in a series of public input sessions on plans for the pool at Bishop Park.

The Athens-Clarke County Leisure Services Department will host public input sessions regarding the SPLOST 2020 funded Bishop Park pool improvements. The sessions are planned for Tuesday, May 24 from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m., Sunday, May 29 from 1:30 – 3:00 p.m., and Sunday, June 5 from 1:30 – 3:00 p.m. All sessions will take place at the Bishop Park pool at 705 Sunset Drive.
Residents will have the opportunity to drop in, meet with staff, and offer input regarding the proposed schematic design for the Bishop Park pool.
An online survey is available through June 5, 2022.
Bishop Park is one of Athens’ most beloved parks and requires necessary updates to ensure future generations are able to enjoy this westside park. Updates include reconstruction of the aquatics area, including replacement of the pool and ancillary structures, new splash pad, and pool house with restrooms, new playground with an adjacent pavilion and restrooms. To the extent available, remaining funds may be used to target the pedestrian improvement and fence project along Hawthorne Avenue.

What’s Next for the Project?
Detailed engineering drawings (schematic designs) have been designed to reflect previous public input comments from Summer 2021. The public is invited to review and comment on these designs.
Public Meetings for Schematic Designs:
- Tuesday, May 24, 6-7:30 p.m.
- Sunday, May 29, 1:30-3:00 p.m.
- Sunday, June 5, 1:30-3:00 p.m.
Each meeting is a drop-in event and will take place at Bishop Park Pool. Staff will be available to answer questions and receive public input.
Online survey will be open May 16, 2022 at midnight - June 5, 2022 at 11:59pm.
Public input results will be presented to the Mayor and Commission in June/July 2022.

User Group
A user group of three Leisure Staff members and three Athens-Clarke County residents, has been tasked with developing a project concept for the Bishop Park Improvements Project. The group develops the project concept based on a priority list of items that are broken into three categories: must have, highly wanted, and nice to have.
The public is invited to review each of the categories and the rankings within each. The user group will take public input into consideration prior to finalizing the project concept and forwarding to Mayor and Commission for approval.
