Local briefs: Clarke Co BOE meets tonight, Jackson Co HS gets new principal

There is an evening meeting of the Clarke County School Board, a 6 o’clock session at the School District’s central office on Prince Avenue in Athens.

Melissa Gillespie gets a promotion: the assistant principal will be the head principal at Jackson County High School when Jackson County’s next school year begins in August.

He got into a fight with a taxi driver Gainesville, a physical altercation over a $7 cab fare: Guillermo Alonzo has been sentenced in Hall County Superior Court, given time served and an order to pay $15 thousand in restitution to the taxi driver he was accused of punching.

There are child porn charges for a man in Hall County: 21 year-old Austin Pope was arrested at his home in Oakwood. He was, at last report, being held without bond in the Hall County jail.

Mike Renshaw is out as County Manager in White County. He was let go by County Commissioners in Cleveland after they learned he had applied for and won a job as a town manager in Massachusetts. Renshaw left his job as County Manager in Barrow County in May of last year to take the post in White County.
