Local briefs: Dogs hang on to top spot, Madison Co Commissioners tackle budget

The Georgia Bulldogs, despite a sluggish weekend win over Kent State, hold on to the number one spot in both the Coaches and the Associated Press rankings. The Dogs travel to Columbia Missouri for this coming Saturday night’s game against the Tigers.

Madison County Commissioners meet this afternoon in Danielsville: it is a 5:30 at the Madison County Government Complex. Budget work headlines the Commission’s business agenda.

US Homeland Security is reporting the arrest of a Lumpkin County woman: agents say thousands of prescription pills designed to relieve anxiety were in a mail shipment that was intercepted en route to the home of 57 year-old Lorraine Sharp.

We have this morning the name of the White County woman killed in a crash in Habersham County: Kelly Wymore was 58 years old. The wreck happened on Georgia Highway 17. The Georgia State Patrol is investigating.

Gwinnett County Police arrest a teenager accused of stabbing and wounding a 4 year-old boy in Lawrenceville. Counts against 19 year-old Anatoli Balesta include felony child cruelty. The victim was hospitalized, at last report in stable condition.
