Local briefs: Dogs prep for Jackets, Jackson Co Commissioners meet in Jefferson

The Georgia Bulldogs, who will spend the week preparing for Saturday’s regular season finale against Georgia Tech, hold on to the top spots in both the Associated Press and Coaches polls after a weekend win at Kentucky. The Bulldogs and Yellow Jackets kick off at noon Saturday in Sanford Stadium in a game that will be televised on ESPN.

Schools in Clarke and Oconee counties are closed today and for the rest of the week, with students and teachers out on Thanksgiving break.

Jackson County Commissioners meet this evening. It is a 6 o’clock session at the Jackson County courthouse in Jefferson.

There is grant money for Franklin County Schools: the central office in Carnesville says it will use $50 thousand from the state Department of Education to beef up school security.

A grand jury in Hart County hands up indictments against a man from Anderson County South Carolina. 48 year-old Louis Davis is accused of leading Hart County Sheriff’s deputies and Georgia State Troopers on a chase that reached speeds of 127 miles per hour. One of the State Troopers suffered minor injuries when he wrecked his patrol car. Davis was arrested after a foot chase off Highway 77 in Hart County.

The Fire Chief in Hart County says the October 4 fire that destroyed Willadean’s Restaurant on Lake Hartwell was electrical in origin.
