Local briefs: Ga Supreme Court hears Athens case, Barrow Co SO looks for deputies

The Georgia Supreme Court hears arguments in a personal injury lawsuit stemming from a 2018 case in Athens. The operators of the University Childcare Center is appealing a State Court decision that reversed a Clarke County judge’s ruling in a lawsuit filed by Andrea Cotton. Cotton sued the childcare center after a center worker crashed into her truck.

There is music this afternoon in Athens. The University of Georgia’s Hodgson String Quartet’s spring concert is underway at 5:30 in UGA’s Performing Arts Center.

The Barrow County Sheriff’s Office is hanging out a Help Wanted sign, looking to hire new deputies for the Sheriff’s Office in Winder. Applications can be made on-line on the Barrow County Sheriff’s Office website.

A Hall County teenager was, at last report, in critical condition after being hit by an SUV and thrown into a mailbox. He was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville. The Georgia State Patrol says the driver of the SUV stayed on the scene of the accident that happened on Harmony Church Road in Hall County. Those State Troopers have not yet said if the driver will face charges.

The Hall County Sheriff’s Office says a 33 year-old Gainesville man is facing charges that include kidnaping after allegedly taking a woman from a home in White County during a domestic dispute. Adam Harvey was, at last report, being held without bond in the Hall County jail. Deputies say the woman was not seriously injured.
