Local briefs: Summer Short Session II classes at UGA, Commissioners meet in Danielsville, Elberton

Two Georgia congressmen are calling on the University of Georgia to end what they say is its involvement in a website that identifies the locations of centers that counsel pregnant women. Complaints about the website come from Republican Representatives Jody Hice and Andrew Clyde, both of whom serve in House districts that cover Athens.

Today is the first day of Summer Short Session Two classes at the University of Georgia: UGA is ramping up for the August 17 start of fall semester.

There is an evening meeting of the Madison County Commission, a 6 o’clock session at the County Government Complex in Danielsville.

There is a public hearing and a monthly meeting for Elbert County Commissioners: it’s underway at 5 o’clock at the County Government Complex in Elberton. Plans for a SPLOST referendum are on the afternoon agenda.

Samantha Rucker was laid to rest after a Sunday funeral in Elberton: the Elbert County School Board member died last week after a battle with cancer. She was 38 years old.
