The advisory committee that is working on plans for a Tax Allocation District for the Newton Bridge Road corridor convenes an afternoon session, just after 3 o’clock at the Snipes Water Resources Building on Barber Street in Athens.
Today is the first day on the job for Oconee County’s new Director of Elections: Sharon Gregg takes over for Rebecca Anglin, who left Watkinsville for a job in the Secretary of State’s office. Gregg worked most recently as an assistant director of elections in Newton County. She worked previously in the elections office in Walton County.
There is an evening meeting of the Oconee County School Board, a 6 o’clock work session at School District offices on School Street in Watkinsville.
Today is a busy day on the local government front in Elbert County, with meetings for the Elbert County Commission and School Board and the City Council in Elberton. The Council will consider an appointment to the Board of the Elberton Downtown Development Authority.
The Elbert County Sheriff’s Office is reporting the arrest of a 78 year-old driver accused of trying to elude a pursuing police officer: Clifford Fleming was booked into and has bonded out of the Elbert County Detention Center. His arrest came after a police chase on Calhoun Falls Highway in Elbert County.
