MACORTS, Sunday alcohol, recall drives highlight local government notes

A public meeting on MACORTS is set for 5 o’clock at Oconee Veterans Park. MACORTS is the Madison Athens-Clarke Oconee Regional Transportation Study. This afternoon’s open house forum will allow for a look at the region’s long-range transportation plan.

The Jackson County Board of Elections approves recall petitions aimed at removing the mayor and mayor pro-tem in Hoschton. Theresa Kenerly and Jim Cleveland are embroiled in controversy over racial statements.

Sunday alcohol sales are on the agenda for this afternoon’s meeting of the City Council in Elberton. Council members are looking to place a referendum on the November 5 ballot that would allow for Sunday sales within the Elberton city limits.
