Man sentenced for shooting that wounded Athens girls

There is a 30-year prison sentence for Rasheed Scott, his punishment for a shooting on North Avenue in Athens: 5 year-old Ne’veah Brown was seriously wounded in the April shooting in a shopping center, losing her left eye. Another girl, a 14 year-old, was also injured. Athens-Clarke County Police say Scott was trying to shoot a 31 year-old man who was in a parking lot outside the studio in which the girls were struck by stray bullets.

From the ACCPD…

On September 27, 2023, Rasheed Scott was sentenced in the Clarke County Superior Court for a shooting which took place on April 26th, 2023. Scott received 30 years confinement as a result of a guilty plea agreement by the Western Judicial District Attorney’s Office.

“The results of this trial illustrates the thorough police work by our officers and detectives,” said Chief Jerry Saulters. “Crimes like this will not be tolerated in our community and we will continue to hold the offenders accountable.”

The Hall County Sheriff’s Office has released the name of the man who was struck and killed by a train night-before-last in Gainesville: Danny Diaz was 42 years old. Investigators say he was homeless.

The GBI is investigating in Gwinnett County, where Lawrenceville Police shot and killed a man they say was trying to steal a police cruiser. No officers were injured.
