Mayor’s coronavirus town hall tonight on WGAU

Athens Mayor Kelly Girtz hosts another in his series of coronavirus town halls: it is set for 6 o’clock this evening, on-line and on WGAU.

Athens’ coronavirus numbers are exactly the same as 24 hours ago: the Georgia Department of Public Health says Clarke County has 200 confirmed cases and 13 deaths from COVID 19. Oconee County has 81 cases and 3 deaths from coronavirus.

Libraries in Elberton and Bowman are phasing in their reopenings after closing because of coronavirus. Both Elbert County facilities are closing 30 minutes earlier than normal to allow for what library officials say will be extensive sanitizing and disinfecting.

A potential COVID 19 exposure is causing Chamblee's city leaders to self-isolate for two weeks. Chamblee City Council members were potentially exposed by a coronavirus patient at a public meeting held earlier this month.

Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms says her city has received more than 88 million federal dollars, money earmarked for Atlanta's relief and recover from coronavirus.

The Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Atlanta, which covers the northern half of Georgia, says in-person mass will be allowed to resume starting next week. Archbishop Gregory Hartmayer says social distancing guidelines should be in place inside churches.

The Georgia Department of Public Health shows 38,885 cases of coronavirus in Georgia, with now 1,675 deaths from COVID 19.
