Candidate qualifying is set to start on April 12, one week from today, in Watkinsville and run through April 14: there are two seats up for grabs in special elections that will be held on June 15. Brian Brodrick’s seat on the Watkinsville City Council will open as he runs for Mayor. Broadrick is running to fill the unexpired term of former Watkinsville Mayor Bob Smith. The former Oconee County state Representative resigned in mid-March. The winner of the June election will serve out the remainder of the year.
There will be a new mayor in Flowery Branch: Mike Miller has told the Flowery Branch City Council he will not run for another term in the office he has held since 2010.
