The funeral for prominent Athens restaurant operator Mike Williams is set for 11 o'clock Monday morning at the First United Methodist Church in downtown Athens. Williams died Thursday at the age of 72. He owned Charlie Williams' Pinecrest Lodge for more than 40 years, and had a hand in the operations of several other stores in and around Athens.

A native of Athens, Mr. Williams was the son of the late Harry Garnett Williams and the late Helen Gunter Williams. He worked for Poss' Barbecue for 10 years prior to owning and operating Charlie Williams' Pinecrest Lodge for over 40 years. He also partnered in operation of several Aaron's stores. Mr. Williams was a member of Athens First United Methodist Church.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Williams was preceded in death by a brother, Phillip Curtis Williams.
Survivors include his high school sweetheart and wife of 54 years, Peggy Sue Poss Williams; children, Michael Williams and Nanci Elizabeth Williams Bixby (Rob); sister, Nancy Williams Wojteczko (Paul); brother-in-law, Bobby Poss (Sandra); sister-in-law, Cindy Poss Mills (Kerry); grandchildren, Samuel Poss Williams, Janie Elizabeth Williams, Georgia Shea Williams, Robert Poss "Bo" Bixby and Marabelle Elizabeth Bixby; three nephews, Pat Hodgson (Lori), Chris Hodgson and Matthew Williams; and his faithful caregiver, Tangia Bell.
A memorial service will be held Monday, April 30 at 11 a.m. at Athens First United Methodist Church with Revs. Chuck Hodges and Martha Aenchbacher officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the church's Hancock Hall.
