GWINNETT COUNTY, GA — A judge set bond at $5,000 Wednesday for a Gwinnett County mother charged with murder after her 1-year-old son died in a hot car outside her workplace.
Deja Coleman, 29, has been jailed since late July on charges of second-degree murder and child cruelty.
Coleman is accused of leaving her 1-year-old son, Daniel, inside a locked car outside Northside Hospital Gwinnett in Lawrenceville for nine hours on July 29.
During the bond hearing, Coleman’s attorney argued that her son’s death was a tragic accident and not murder.
Prosecutors opposed bond, arguing Coleman was a flight risk.
The judge ultimately set Coleman’s bond at $5,000.
