ATLANTA — NASA is giving Georgia Tech $10 million to help train the next generation of aerospace workers.
The program is not training rocket scientists or geologists. It will focus on preparing workers for jobs including welders and machinists and other jobs related to AI, officials said.
Dr. Stephen Ruffin, interim chair of Georgia Tech’s School of Aerospace Engineering, says the need extends beyond NASA.
“There’s really a need for more of those that are in the skill trades to support much of what NASA needs to get done,” Ruffin said.
Georgia is home to nearly 800,000 aerospace jobs, according to officials.
Georgia Tech is one of seven sites that was selected for the program.
