NE Ga police blotter: accused fentanyl dealers busted, truck theft suspects arrested

Suspects from Maysville and Winder are among five people accused of trafficking fentanyl in Banks and Jackson counties: the GBI says two men from Virginia were also arrested.

A woman from Stephens County is killed in a crash in Banks County. The Georgia State Patrol says the 43 year-old woman from Toccoa was ejected from her vehicle after veering off Highway 63 and slamming into a culvert.

They are accused of stealing a truck out of Habersham County: three auto theft suspects are in the Franklin County jail. The Sheriff’s Office in Carnesville says the stolen truck was found outside a home in Gumlog. Two men from Toccoa and one from Lavonia were arrested and charged on counts that include the theft of the truck, along with drug and weapons charges.

A Habersham County jail guard is recovering after he was assaulted by an inmate at the lockup in Clarkesville. The detention officer was knocked unconscious, allegedly by 35 year-old Mark Roberts of Clarkesville. Roberts was behind bars on charges that include criminal damage to property. The Habersham County Sheriff’s Office says he’s facing new charges now, aggravated battery and felony obstruction among them.

The investigation continues after a weekend shooting in Gwinnet County: an investigator in the Gwinnett County District Attorney’s Office was shot and wounded in Dacula. There was no word from Gwinnett Police on suspects or motive.
