NE Ga police blotter: Athens shooting becomes murder case, Jefferson police seek theft suspects

A 24 year-old man who was shot and wounded early Sunday has died from injuries. Police say Ja’Vanni McDavid was shot on Northview Drive in Athens. The suspect arrested and charged in the shooting is now facing felony murder counts. Anthony Brown is 19 years old, from Athens. He’s in the Athens-Clarke County jail.

The Athens-Clarke County Police Department was notified that the victim, Ja’Vanni McDavid, 24, of Athens, GA, died as a result of the injuries he sustained in the shooting. Anthony Brown will be charged with Murder. Press Release 2023-03050009 March 6, 2023 ACCPD Investigating Shooting On March 5, 2023, at approximately 12:16AM, ACCPD responded to the 100 block of Northview Drive for a discharging firearms call. Upon arrival, officers located a 24-year-old male who had been shot. The male was transported by EMS to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. As a result of the ongoing investigation, Anthony Brown, 19, of Athens, GA, was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault. The investigation is ongoing. An Athens teenager is arrested on burglary charges: Athens-Clarke County Police say 17 year-old Laman Williams broke into cars on Northside Drive, stealing, among things, a firearm.

Athens-Clarke County Police say their officers partnered with sheriff’s deputies from Clarke, Oconee, and Greene counties in drug raids that led to the arrests of two drug suspects. 40 year-old Darrell Jackson and 30 year-old Darien Woodrum are both from Athens. They are accused of trafficking marijuana, methamphetamine, and fentanyl.

Police in Jefferson are asking for help from the public in finding theft suspects: two men seen in surveillance photos are suspected of stealing from stores in Jefferson. They are black males believed to be driving a silver Acura MDX.

The Hall County Sheriff’s Office is reporting the arrests of two drug suspects: Amelia Villa and Leandro Morales are both 41 years old; both are from Gainesville. Drug agents say they were caught with more than $25 thousand worth of methamphetamine. They were booked into and are being held without bond in the Hall County jail.

Cherrie Pulido has pleaded guilty to charges of vehicular homicide: the 40 year-old woman from Cornelia was arrested on a DUI charge after the 2019 crash that claimed the life of a student from Habersham Central High School. 17 year-old Carlos Morales was killed and his brother and a teenager were both injured in the accident. Pulido received a 12-year prison sentence after her guilty plea of earlier this week.
