NE Ga police blotter: burglary suspect arrested, missing kayaker’s body found

A man from Florida is accused in two home break-ins in Hall County: Steven Diamond is 54 years old, from Pensacola. He’s charged in residential burglaries that date back to 2020.

The building that houses the offices of a law firm in Hart County will have to be repaired: a suspect fleeing police slammed his car into the building in downtown Hartwell.

The body of a kayaker who went missing in Lake Hartwell has been recovered. William Haguewood was 47 years old. Searchers found his body on the South Carolina side of the lake.

The Sheriff’s Office in Covington is investigating a shooting at a Wal Mart in Newton County: the victim was hospitalized after being shot in both legs, allegedly by 42 year-old suspect David Ruffin, who was arrested and booked into the Newton County jail.

Two boaters are rescued after being stranded on an island in the Ocmulgee River. It happened near a dam in Butts County. The Georgia Department of Natural Resources says the rescues, which took several hours, were made with the help of the Fire and Emergency Management departments in Covington and Newton County.

A Gwinnett County man is facing fraud charges. Jose Martinez allegedly scammed an insurance company out of more than $9.2 million. The 56 year-old from Grayson was arrested last month on allegations that date back to 2016.
