NE Ga police blotter: convicted child killer seeks new trial, man shot by deputies in Blairsville

Juan Martinez pleaded guilty in 2023 to the 2021 death of a 2 year-old girl in Gainesville: now Martinez, serving a 29-year prison sentence, is looking to withdraw his plea and stand trial. Juan Martinez and his wife Nancy were arrested after the death of a toddler they were babysitting. She was sentenced to 8 years in prison.

A Gainesville teenager is facing child molestation allegations: 17 year-old Daniel Hilario was booked into the Hall County jail, ending an investigation that began late last year.

The Hall County Sheriff’s Office says a 38 year-old Gainesville man is facing domestic violence charges after allegedly pointing a gun at a woman and child in a home in Hall County. Jose Gonzalez is in the Hall County jail.

A man from Young Harris is in the Towns County jail, caught with what drug agents say was a thirty pound stash of fentanyl. The Towns County Sheriff’s Office says heroin and Xanax were also confiscated in the raid that led to the arrest of 44 year-old Gregory Breitenbach.

The GBI is investigating in Blairsville, where an 85 year-old man was shot and killed in a confrontation with Union County Sheriff’s deputies. The deputies say they returned fire when Wendell Cross fired at them.
