NE Ga police blotter includes the death on ACCPD veteran

A veteran officer in the Athens-Clarke County Police Department has died: Becky Croxton had worked as a Police Officer in Athens since 1997. There was no immediate word from the police department on cause of death or on funeral arrangements.

The Georgia State Patrol is investigating a Wednesday crash in Banks County: two people were killed in the wreck on Highway 441 at Banks Road in Banks County. Two people—both from Warner Robins—were killed in the single-vehicle accident.

There is a hat in the ring in the race to be the next Sheriff in Walton County: Chief Deputy Keith Brooks say he will run for the job that opens after next year. Joe Chapman, the current Sheriff in Walton County, says he will not be a candidate for reelection in 2024.

The name of the victim of a deadly crash in Elbert County has been released: Anthony Calhoun was from Dewy Rose. The Coroner’s office in Elberton says Calhoun was killed in a single-vehicle accident that happened on Highway 17 in Bowman.

A Hart County man is indicted on elder abuse charges: the state Attorney General’s office says Lawrence Montgomery is charged with stealing thousands of dollars of Social Security benefits that were intended for his elderly mother, who lived in a nursing home.

Police in Gwinnett County have released the name of a murder victim: Steven Thomaston was 35 years old, from Lawrenceville. He was shot and killed in Dacula. So far, no word on who did it or why.
