The GBI has released the name of the suspect in this week’s officer-involved shooting in Toccoa: Joel Keller is 36 years old, from Toccoa. The Stephens County Sheriff’s Office says he was shot and wounded while struggling with a deputy. The deputy was not injured. The GBI investigation is ongoing.

The Wednesday afternoon fire that burned a building on the square in downtown Gainesville is said to have caused an estimated $20 thousand in damage. Gainesville firefighters say there were no injuries. The blaze is believed to have been sparked by an electrical shortage.

There is now reward money from the Lumpkin County Sheriff’s Office, up to $10 thousand for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for a February 3 armed robbery at the Crisson Gold Mine in Dahlonega. More than $100 thousand in merchandise—some of it gold and jewelry—was stolen.
