NE Ga police blotter includes Watkinsville cleanup, Gainesville sentencing

Traffic flows normally through downtown Watkinsville this morning, where Wednesday say Main Street closed for more than two hours after a truck leaked an odorous chemical, possibly Toluene.  The same truck is believed to have released the same chemical a short time later in Greensboro.

A teenager from Hart County is charged in the death of a man killed in a crash in Elbert County: the Georgia State Patrol says 18 year-old John LeCroy of Hartwell was behind the wheel of the vehicle that struck a car driven by Edward Wright of Canon. Wright died after the wreck on Bowman Highway. LeCroy faces counts that include DUI and vehicular homicide.

Five men are sentenced in Hall County, getting prison time that ranges from 14 to 21 months, their punishments for setting fire to a Gainesville Police car during protests that took place in June of last year.

There is a December 15 sentencing date for Austin Stryker, the Dawson County man convicted last week for his role in the murder Hannah Bender, the 21 year-old Lumpkin County woman whose body was found in a shallow grave in Forsyth County in 2019. Stryker is looking at the possibility of life in prison.

The GBI is investigating the death of an inmate at the jail in Forsyth County. Rhett Anderson was 63 years old, from Cumming.
