NE Ga police blotter: man shoots Athens workplace, Oconee Co son charged in father's death

A woman set her house on fire after shooting her husband multiple times in Houston County, Alabama before officials say she took her own life.

A 27 year-old Athens man is arrested and charged in a New Year’s Day shooting on Athens’ east side: Athens-Clarke County Police say several gunshots were fired into a building under construction at Boehringer Inglehart on Olympic Drive. There was damage to the building but no injuries. Zachariah Martin Best, who worked at the facility, is facing charges that include criminal damage to property. There’s no word on a motive for the shooting.

An Oconee County man is facing a murder charge after the Sheriff’s Office in Watkinsville says 45 year-old David Stanton’s father died of neglect. 63 year-old Arthur Stanton died December 28 at St Mary’s Hospital in Athens.

There are now charges for a man in Stephens County, charged in a New Year’s weekend shooting in Toccoa: suspect Mitchell Tucker is 38 years old, from Toccoa. He’s accused of shooting and wounding a 36 year-old victim. Charges against Tucker include aggravated assault.
