New charges for home invasion suspect in Elberton, GBI autopsy results in Buford

There are new charges for a home invasion suspect in Elberton: 19 year-old Javaris Jones now faces counts that include obstruction and disorderly conduct. The home invasion allegations date back to February 9, when he was arrested and booked into the Elbert County jail after he was accused of breaking into a house in Elberton. 

There is reward money in Banks County, with up to $1,000 offered for information that leads to the recovery of items stolen from the Fort Hollingsworth White House near Alto. Thieves stole artifacts from the frontier structure that was built in 1793.

The Georgia Supreme Court has denied the petition for a new trial and upheld the conviction of Thanquarius Calhoun. Calhoun was convicted five years ago in the death of a woman who died during a high-speed police chase in Franklin County. Calhoun was sentenced to life in prison after a jury in Carnesville found him guilty of murder in the death of 19 year old Marian Shore. She was a passenger in his vehicle during the police pursuit. 

An autopsy by medical examiners at the GBI says John Monahan shot and killed himself: the 26 year-old from Bryan County drove a stolen SUV into Lake Lanier last month, shooting at police officers who were shooting at him. The vehicle went into the Lake near Buford; Monahan was found dead a short time later.

Authorities in Monroe County have officially identified the two people killed in a house fire on February 27. As suspected, they are 46 year-old Tasha Vandiver and her 21 year-old son, Gerald Walton. The 16 year-old daughter of Vandiver, Candace Walton, has been charged with murder and arson after the fire that burned a home near Forsyth.
