The Athens-Clarke County Government has a new Human Resources Director: Jeff Hale has been the interim HR director since April, when Lisa Ward stepped down to take a job with Jackson EMC in Jefferson.

Manager Blaine Williams has named Jeff Hale as the new Human Resources Director for the Unified Government of Athens-Clarke County. Hale has served as the Interim Director for Human Resources since April 21, when former director Lisa Ward resigned for a position with Jackson EMC. He has worked continuously for the Athens-Clarke County Human Resources Department since 2008 in positions including Safety & Risk Administrator, Employment Administrator, and Assistant Human Resources Director.

“Among the other services it provides, Human Resources is vital for helping the Unified Government ensure that we attract and retain quality employees to best serve this community,” said Manager Blaine Williams. “I am confident that Jeff has the abilities, experience, and demeanor necessary to work with all of our departments and employees to continue our goal of making the Unified Government’s workforce a point of pride both locally and beyond.”

Hale holds a Master’s degree in American Government and Public Law from the University of Georgia and a Political Science Degree from Knox College. He is certified as a Certified Professional by the Society for Human Resources Management, a Professional in Human Resources by the Human Resources Certification Institute, and a Certified Human Resources Manager by the Georgia Local Government Personnel Association.

Prior to joining Athens-Clarke County in 2008, Hale worked for private human resources consulting companies Millennium Consulting and Anderson Consulting. He also served as an educator at North Oconee High School, Barrow County High School, and Clarke Middle School where he taught classes in Advanced Placement United States Government and Politics, Economics, and United States History and Geography.
