CHICAGO — A majority of people believe the American Dream is no longer true.

Polling from the Wall Street Journal/NORC Research Center finds that when asked about the state of the economy, 45% of respondents said it will get worse over the next year while 29% said it will stay about the same.

According to the survey, 69% of respondents are abandoning the so-called American Dream with less than a quarter of people saying they were very confident they could buy a home if they wanted to.
