SAN FRANCISCO, CA — A new study finds the southeast has the highest dementia rates in the country.

Researchers at UC San Francisco say rates are 25% higher than normal in our part of the country, just above the northwest and Rocky Mountains.

The increase remained when researchers accounted for factors like age, race and cardiovascular disease.

They’re now trying to figure out why, but they say it could come down to environmental factors.
