NE Ga news briefs: UGA athletic board meets, rain washes out bridge near Toccoa

The Board of the University of Georgia Athletic Association is meeting today in Athens: the session takes place at the Georgia Center. 

There is a morning meeting of the Upper Oconee Basin Water Authority, underway at 9:30 at Authority offices on Research Drive in Athens. 

The Elbert County School Board, meeting this week in Elberton, signed off on $25,000 for new security cameras for Elbert County Middle School. 

Drivers are having to work their way around a road that is closed after a bridge collapse in Stephens County: heavy rains get the blame for the collapse of the bridge on Deerchase Road in Stephens County. There is no word on which the bridge might be repaired. 

Piedmont College names a new vice-president for academic affairs: the job goes to Daniel Silber (pictured above) who will come to Demorest from Culver-Stockton College in Missouri.

Today is the last day of the school year in the largest school district in Georgia, the final day of classes in the Gwinnett County School District. There are more than 178,000 students in Gwinnett County’s 139 schools.
