The GBI is investigating in Oconee County, where a deputy has been arrested and fired after allegedly having sex with a female inmate at the Oconee County jail. Blake Patat is 30 years old, from Comer. The incident is believed to have happened last month.

It is disappointing to terminate and arrest one of our employees. As the Oconee County Sheriff, I was elected to uphold the laws and protect the citizens of this county, and I will not tolerate misconduct of any kind in our Sheriff’s Office. On Aug. 3, 2021, I was made aware of an allegation that Blake Patat, a jail employee, had inappropriate sexual contact with an inmate. We immediately launched an internal investigation, which produced enough evidence to terminate two jail employees and warrant a criminal investigation of Patat. We contacted the GBI on Aug. 4, 2021, to conduct the criminal investigation. Based on their investigation, Blake Patat was arrested this afternoon for Violation of Oath of Office (felony) and Sexual Assault (felony). While upsetting, I am pleased to know he will answer for his actions.
