Oconee Co postpones Library reopening

The reopening of the Oconee County library in its new home in Wire Park has been postponed. Originally set for February 3, there is no word on when the new library will be open. The Library has been closed since last year for the move from its old home on Experiment Station Road in Oconee County.

From the Oconee Co Library…

After thoughtful deliberation with esteemed partners, including architects, building partners, interior designers, and vendors, the Oconee County Library has made the challenging decision to postpone the reopening of the Oconee County Library at Wire Park.

The library believes this delay is crucial to ensure the highest standards of quality and excellence that the Athens Regional Library System strives to provide to its communities. A new date for the reopening of the Oconee County Library will be announced soon.

“While this was a difficult decision, it reflects our unwavering commitment to providing the Watkinsville community with a library that surpasses expectations,” says Regional Executive Director, Valerie Bell.

The new building will allow The Oconee County Library to offer more programs and services in a modern and updated space. Library additions will include a new Creative Space with 3D printing, laser engraving, a recording studio, and some of the most popular editing software available. Dynamic meeting room space will also be available for library programs and other community groups to use, equipped with cutting edge technology.

The Athens Regional Library System consists of 11 branch locations, located within 5 counties in Northeast Georgia. For more information, please visit athenslibrary.org.
